Grab your friends, snag free pizza and snacks, and kick back for a free Teen Movie Night at the recreation center! We’ll dim the lights, turn up the sound, and turn the gym into a cozy movie zone just for teens.
What to Expect

- Hangout time with friends before and after the film
- A relaxed, safe space to unwind and have fun
- Free pizza and snacks (while supplies last)
- Bring a blanket, beanbag, or pillow if you’d like to lounge on the floor, or settle into the bleachers
This event is free for teens, but food may be limited - sign up in advance to help us with the headcount!

Teen Movie Night is part of a four-part, smoke-free movie series designed just for teens. The program is held in a smoke-free environment where teens can:
- Socialize through physical games and activities before the movie
- Enjoy smoke-free cinematic entertainment
- Interact with teen leaders who help plan events, activities, and marketing that appeal to their peers
Program Format
- Four smoke-free films shown throughout the year
- June & August: Outdoor movies on the lawn in Turner Park
- November & March: Indoor movies in the gym at the Parks and Recreation Center
- Each event begins with a physical activity that promotes exercise and social engagement
- Vendor booths on-site for outreach and education
- Teens can casually connect with local health officials and learn about the dangers of vaping and smoking through interactive activities
Background
Powhatan Parks and Recreation is seeking teens (grades 6–12) to serve on the Capes Over Vapes event planning committee.
Capes Over Vapes is a grant-funded program created by County staff to address the growing concern of vape use among teens. The program:
- Uses volunteer teen leaders to help host a movie series that attracts their peers
- Provides education and advocacy about the dangers of nicotine vaping
- Offers support and resources for teens who want to quit
Get Involved!
Want to help plan Teen Movie Night and other events?
Committee members will:
- Attend planning meetings (virtual or in-person)
- Help at all Capes Over Vapes programs and events
- Support program marketing, community outreach, and engagement
Teens can earn volunteer hours for college while having fun planning movie events and activities for friends.
