Megan grew up as a Parks & Rec kid, attending summer camps, park concerts, art fairs, parades, haunted trails, feeding the ducks, and playing recreational soccer and softball. Megan has over 16 years of experience in recreation working in numerous departments and localities across the county, from Colorado to Lake Tahoe. For fun, Megan enjoys hiking, paddling, skiing, singing, and playing music. "This is more than a job to me, it is a purpose. Access to parks, recreational activities, and events is the backbone of a healthy and thriving community." Fun fact: Megan paddled 120 river miles on a stand-up paddleboard on the James from Lynchburg to Maidens Landing. A graduate of Southeastern Louisiana University, Virginia Master Gardener, and Horticultural consultant for Maymont, Sarah comes to Powhatan Parks and Recreation with diverse background and motivated to make a positive impact in our community. Sarah settled in Powhatan County with her young family in 2021, after being a trailing military spouse for over a decade. During that time, she was fortunate enough to live overseas and all over the country, giving her a broadened perspective on life. Sarah jumped into the community feet first, volunteering and advocating with veterans' organizations, local homeschool groups, and working to fight food insecurity in the greater Richmond area. A native of Louisiana, Sarah grew up spending time outdoors playing softball, fishing, gardening and reading all the books she could get her hands on. Sarah now enjoys tending her vegetable garden, preserving the natural resources on her family's small homestead and exploring Virginia with her husband and three children.
